Questions, bugs, or a tape that came out wrong? Email oe60123@gmail.com and include your iPhone model, your iOS version, and the tape speed you were shooting on. Replies usually go out within a couple of days.

Common questions

• My video looks nothing like the preview. It should look exactly like the preview. The effect is recorded into the file rather than added afterward, so the viewfinder and the saved video always match. If they do not, that is a bug worth emailing about.
• Where do my tapes and photos go? Straight to your photo library when you press stop, or immediately when you take a still in PHOTO mode. Nothing is stored inside the app.
• Why does the date say 1994? Because someone set the deck clock there. Tap DATE to change it, or press TODAY to bring it back to now.
• What do SP, LP and EP do? They are tape speeds, and they are the main quality control. SP is a fresh tape in a good deck. EP is a six hour tape, and it looks and sounds like one.
• What is TRACK? Hold it and the tape mistracks: the picture shreds sideways and the tracking band rolls up the frame. Let go and it settles.

Privacy policy

VHS collects nothing. There are no accounts, no analytics, no advertising, no tracking, and no network requests of any kind. The app has no server to send anything to.

Video and photos are processed entirely on your device and written directly to your photo library. They are never uploaded anywhere and the developer never sees them. The app asks for camera and microphone access in order to record, and for permission to add to your photo library in order to save what you shoot. Those permissions are used for nothing else.

Because no data is collected, there is no data to request, correct, or delete. Deleting the app removes it completely. Anything you already saved stays in your photo library, under your control.
